The 香港賽馬會網上投注 is pleased to extend their congratulations to Dr Louise China, a Consultant Hepatologist at Royal Free Hospital in London, for her highly commended nomination for the 香港賽馬會網上投注 Dame Parveen Kumar for Education and Training Award 2023 (previously 香港賽馬會網上投注 Gold Trainer Award) for her impressive achievements and work as a trainer. The award recognises the work of excellent trainers in developing the future of the gastroenterology and hepatology specialty. The extract below is taken from her nomination:

'Throughout her registrar training and early years as a consultant hepatologist, Louise has been both a supportive and inspirational figure to doctors and the wider MDT. Louise鈥檚 passion for medical education and training are evident over many years with an outstanding CV. She completed an MSc in Medical Education and worked as a Clinical Teaching Fellow at UCL Medical School. Following this, she became a Fellow of The Higher Education Academy in January 2012 and was appointed an honorary clinical senior lecturer at UCL medical school in 2014-2021 contributing as a personal tutor, as well as MBBS examinations and chair selection panels. On top of this, she has been a member of the Medical Schools Council (UK) national expert assessment group, has worked regularly for the GMC (assessments) and lectured on the UCL MSc Medical Education Course.

She is committed to improving the teaching and training of post-grad trainees having been Chair of the 香港賽馬會網上投注 Trainee鈥檚 Section leading a number of annual events. In 2014 she co-developed and led the inaugural and now fully established Royal Free Hepatology Course which attracts delegates from around the world. and has gone on to lead multiple national GI postgraduate courses (IBD, Nutrition, GI for GPs). Furthermore, she led the initial development of a new assessment tool for the endoscopic management of upper GI bleeding which has now been adopted by JAG (for this, she was awarded the 香港賽馬會網上投注 Alistair McIntyre Prize for Improving

Gastroenterology Training in 2013). More recently Louise was appointed as deputy lead for year 6 at UCL Medical school as well as honorary Associate Professor in 2021. Her current responsibilities include the production of UCL finals assessment, year 6 clinical site regulation, curriculum review and delivery, supervision of students in difficulty and she is the lead for a working group addressing the current challenges students face in preparation for clinical practice. In her current Consultant role at the Royal Free, she is education and training lead, with the rest of her outstanding dedication and achievements highlighted in this application.'
